The Bodycasting process

Bodycasting Sculpture is cast from a mold that is taken directly from a person's body. The finished bodycasting is a piece of fine art that you can be proud to display in your home, office or studio.  Each person's body is unique and special in its own right. By taking a mold directly from a person's body, I can capture not only the shape of the body but all of the details and expressions that make each person unique.  Sculpture is a three dimensional work of art that is unique and can be created from earth's most enduring materials – I choose to use plaster (hydrostone) or bronze for the bodycasting.

A Unique Experience: The experience of having a mold and sculpture made of your own body or that of a loved one is a unique and exciting event. The final sculpture is not just a piece of art that you purchased, it is actually a collaboration between the artist, the person commissioning the bodycasting or the person who is the subject of the bodycasting.

A bodycasting is a work of Art: There is nothing more unique or beautiful in nature than the human form. All through history artists have sought to capture this beauty in their work. A bodycasting is a unique, original sculpture created from your body, or the body of your loved one, that you can be proud to display in your home.  Few things are as precious as our memories. We preserve these memories in photographs, videos and, now, in digital images. A bodycasting preserves memories like no other medium, in three dimensions. A bodycasting is a memory that you can reach out and touch.

Document Changes in Your Life or Body: One of the few things in life that is certain is change. Some change we can control, most we can't. A bodycasting can document important or exciting changes. A bodycasting might be made of a woman while she is pregnant or of a child's hand's at different ages. Would you like to preserve the memory of what you looked like when you were in the best physical condition of your life? Do you want to compare how you look before and after some change in your body or in your life? Nothing is more realistic than a bodycasting sculpture.

Comfortable and Safe: In order to capture the essence of a person who is sitting for a bodycasting, it is important that they feel both comfortable and safe. My bodycasting studio is designed for privacy and for the model's comfort. Prior to every modeling session I will meet with you to review the bodycasting process and to discuss the pose that you are interested in. You are encouraged to bring along your spouse or a friend to the modeling session - to observe or to take photos. The products I use are natural and non-toxic and the primary molding materials can even be used internally. In some ways the bodycasting process is like going to a spa for a body wrap.

Fast: My client's comfort is always our first consideration. Holding a pose for an extended period of time can be uncomfortable even for a professional model. My process is very quick. Most molds take less than 30 minutes to complete. Once the mold is removed, the bodycasting sculpture is cast and the final sculpture is left to dry for a couple of weeks and then sprayed and patinaed ready for you to take home or I could have the piece cast in bronze.

I want all my customers to be thoroughly delighted with their casting.   The bodycastings are all hand-made and everything can be tailored to your precise requirements - the color and material used are your choices!
