Cherrie La Porte Cohen designs her distinctive art glass collection and
bronze sculpture to capture arrays of texture, color and form in a
collection that stimulates the imagination. Her art collection is a
varied mix of glass, bronze, metal and found objects from jewelry to large
architectural glass installations and life size bronze sculptures. Her
pieces are fluid in movement and full of energy.
She was first
introduced to the art of stained glass in 1980 at Foss High School in Tacoma, WA which she pursued as a hobby.
After many career changes she returned to glass and joined the
Art Glass Association of Southern California in 2001 expanding her artwork to
include fused art glass and blown glass. She started a glass gift collection
called Play of Colors which was a success while she made the transition
to an art career of fine art with a focus of art glass, outdoor garden art and bronze sculpture.
Most of her
skills have been self-taught, with the exception of a few workshops and couple classes
at Palomar College.
Cherrie enjoys creating
with glass in an abstract contemporary
style with attention to color, form and texture. Her artwork has evolved by
blending glass and metal creatively into sculptures infused with her own
personal style. Large glass garden panels and dichroic glass mobiles
have been her signature pieces adding dazzle to any garden. Her husband,
Garry Cohen, who is a professional glass artist and educator, and Cherrie
have created “Glass Ranch” at their residence in Escondido with a hot shop,
two studios, a sculpture garden and a glass gallery. Their country setting
in Escondido allows for a flexible schedule and the freedom to be creative
in a natural, beautiful environment. They encourage guests and
collectors to come and visit a live working artists environment with their
art on display year around available by appointment.
Cherrie makes
art her life, is making a living at it, and encourages clients, students and
friends in their pursuit of an aesthetically balanced life. Customers include
many San Diego tourists and residents, international collectors and other
collectors throughout the United States. Her goal is to continue to grow in the
art of working with glass and metal and all their endless possibilities. |
